Bangkok to London: My Singapore Airlines Foodie Adventure
Bangkok to London: A Singapore Airlines Food Journey
Leg 1: Bangkok to Singapore
Let’s start with Singapore Airlines – they’re known for being one of the best airlines out there, and I could see why right from the moment I stepped on board. A hot towel in economy class? Yes, please! That little touch made me feel instantly pampered. Also I don't know how I got so lucky with my seat because damn I had ample legroom to stretch out. Love my life?!
Breakfast came around 9 am, and I went for the congee – a savoury rice porridge. It was a real treat, complete with crispy fried dough bits, century egg, and a few hidden meatballs. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy airplane food so much, but I’d give this meal a solid 9 out of 10. It set me up perfectly for my layover in Singapore.
Fast Forward: Singapore Stopover
After a whirlwind 10-hour layover (seriously, Singapore is such a fun city to explore – check out my layover post for tips), I was back at Changi Airport around 10 pm, ready for the second leg of the trip.
By the way, if you don't have a super long stopover like I did, it's perfectly doable to just spend your time in Changi and explore Jewel, which has this famous indoors waterfall that is breathtaking during the day and at night. Changi airport is like a mini paradise and it's hands down one of the nicest airport I’ve ever been to.
Leg 2: Singapore to London
Around 11pm we finally boarded the plane, I got another hot towel (much needed after sweating it out in Singapore’s humidity all day) and settled into my seat for the long flight ahead. This flight was a breeze. Singapore Airlines really knows how to make economy feel a bit fancy. My seat was comfy, the legroom was decent, and the entertainment screen was huge! Plus, I had a cozy blanket and pillow to snuggle into.
Dinner was served at 1:30 am – a weird time, but when you’re crossing time zones, normal meal schedules go out the window. The food came with real metal cutlery (love this detail), but here’s where I messed up – I picked the herb-baked fish, which was just okay. Meanwhile, the person next to me had noodles, and I had serious food envy. The fish gets a 7 out of 10, mostly because I couldn’t stop thinking about those noodles.
The Grand Finale: Nasi Lemak
But let’s talk about the real highlight: breakfast. At 4 am, they served nasi lemak, a coconut rice dish with all the fixings, and it was incredible. The moment I lifted the lid, I knew I was in for a treat. The flavours were amazing and seasoned on point. There was also a combination of different textures, something not commonly experienced with airline meals as usually anything crispy is soggy and lukewarm by the time it reaches you.. but here we had a spicy sambal, some crispy anchovies, fragrant rice – all of it came together perfectly. This wasn’t just airline food; it felt like a legit restaurant meal at 35,000 feet. It was easily a 10 out of 10. I’m still dreaming about that nasi lemak!
Overall thoughts
Singapore Airlines completely changed the game for me when it comes to in-flight food. They’ve got a rep for being one of the best airlines in the world, and it’s easy to see why – from their service to their food, they nail the details. The hot towels, the real cutlery, the thoughtfulness in every dish – it made the whole experience way more enjoyable. So, if you’re ever flying with them, don’t stress about the food – just sit back and get ready for a surprisingly delicious journey!
